Here is a picture of the 8×10 shed we built this past summer. After several weekends of rain we finally got it completed. we found the plans complete and easy to follow. Get everything straight level,& plumb you’ll have no problems. As you can see we had limited space to construct it as we didn’t want to cut down any trees. We also added a small platform at the side It all worked out very well.
The most important tip on home remodeling is planning. With a well thought out plan you will save money, time and lots of heartache.
The Excitement of Remodeling Your Home
Remodeling a home is very exciting but can also bring on a lot of stress. When you are stressed it can bring on some major mistakes that can hurt the pocket book along with your home.
So let’s go back to the most important home remodeling tip – planning.
Write down your plans on paper.
Depending on the size of your remodel you may want to hire an architect and a interior designer. Another tip would be to surf the internet for ideas and photos. There is an abundance of information on the topic.
The most important part of planning is your budget. Stay within your budget and everything else will fall into place. Base your decisions on your budget.
The area or areas that you plan on remodeling. Know which areas which will be affected and what exactly will change
Know how much time you will need to complete each project. This isn’t a problem if you are doing it yourself, but if you are hiring help you need to have a time frame.
When it comes to supplies you need to know your plan. If you are hiring a third party they may furnish the supplies. You can purchase the supplies yourself if your hiring a contractor which will save you money. You will need to let your contractor know before hand if you plan on purchasing the supplies yourself.
Do your research whether it be hiring a contractor, architect, interior designer, or purchasing supplies. There is quite a wide range of pricing when it comes to all mentioned above. Talk to people who have done remodels, get referrals.
Once again plan ahead do your homework, shop around and you will see a very successful home remodeling project succeed whether you do it yourself or hire a company.
James Krenov is a legend in some circles of woodworking. His ideas and work inspire me to believe that wood can speak to us if only we will listen, and that some of the efficiency brought by power tools threatens our ability to condsider the wood we use in our construction. When I think of him and his work, I’m reminded to look before imposing my will on a piece of wood—even if the act of looking takes only a second.
So it is with sadness I discover that James Krenov can no longer see well enough to create the work that so defines his life and influences woodworking culture. I find this final unfinished cabinet a symbol both of what I want—a life that has positively influenced the world around me (both physical and ephemeral)—and what I fear—a gradual end to my creative ability. Since in many ways my life as a woodworker has barely begun, this cabinet is a reminder that the gift of creation should be used now because one day it will expire.
Michael built a 10×14 Gable Shed with our shed plans.
Here is a picture of my 10′X14′ storage shed built with the help of your plans. I did need to make a few adjustments due to raising the shed off the ground and making the corners stronger. Needed quite a few more nails than called for but it all worked out to around $1500 which is nearly $900 less than a similar installed shed through the big name stores.
So which tools do you really need to purchase.
For your basic woodworking projects you should probably include:
Cordless Drill (best invention ever)
Hammer or brad nailer
Table Saw (a lot more can be done with this machine than most people realize)
Power tools such as circular saw and jig saw
Tape measure and framing square
Wood glue
Sander
If your wanting to do some more detailed type woodworking I suggest purchasing the following extra woodworking tools. These tools
will help with the finer details with your woodworking project.
Router and Router bits
Chop saw or Miter saw
Scroll saw
Cordless tools have become very popular and relatively inexpensive. While woodworking its very handy not to have to plug in different
tools for each job.
After getting your shop filled with tools stop by our site and pick out a woodworking plan and get woodworking.
Thank you for the playhouse plans. My father and I built this in 4 days as a joint birthday present for my 2 children Conor aged 2 1/2 and Holly aged 6. The kids love it and live in it almost. The structure is extremely solid and has cost us approximately £325.00 UK. This compares to house’s of similar size but with structures made of materials by far weaker in our garden supply centers costing £700-£800 Pounds. Again thank you for the playhouse plans.
A drill press is stationary not hand held like more familiar drills. Accuracy and power are the drill presses advantages over the hand held drill. A drill press is a very valuable addition to the workshop and are available in many different types and models. Here is a few things you may want to consider when purchasing a new drill press.
Bench top vs Floor Model
The bench top drill press is secured to a work bench top and the floor model sets directly on the floor. The floor model is able to handle those larger projects and usually comes with more attachments and accessories. Unless you have a very small workshop the floor model is the better choice.
Multiple Speeds
When shopping for your drill press look for one with multiple speeds as this will allow you to do a wide range of projects from metalwork to woodwork. When working with wood you want to use higher speeds and when working with metal slower speeds are best. Look for a drill press that will operate between 500 to 4,000 RPM’S.
Horsepower
Just like anything we all want the big go fast machine. More horsepower in your drill press allows you to drill bigger holes through harder material. When looking for your machine look for one with minimum 3/4 horsepower.
Drill Press Table
If you want to be able to just about any job with your drill press a adjustable table is a must. These table can swivel, raise and be lowered which allows more flexibility in your work.
Depth Stops
Another great feature to look for is the depth stop. This allows the ability to drill a certain depth which is nice if your drilling multiple holes that need to be the same depth.
Weight
If you are looking at two separate drill presses and can’t decide which one to purchase go with the heavier of the two. A heavier machine will run smoother.
Useful Accessories
A drill press clamp is an affective attachment as it keeps your hand away for the work and also keeps the material firmly in place. A fence for your drill press is also a nice attachment to have.
A drill press is a very versatile machine with the right attachments. Some extra attachments and accessories are mortising, sanding and grooving. The mortise attachment is very popular and allows you to drill perfect mortises.
When setting out to purchase a new drill press do your homework. What are your needs? Look at all the models available and write down what features you will need.
Happy Building!
